The evaluation of the Zenex Literacy Project (ZenLit) was conducted by the Evaluation Research Agency (ERA), based at the Stellenbosch University. The Project was evaluated over a three-year period (from 2014 – 2017), using a framework which included repeated measures testing and control schools.
The ZenLit Project was an innovative teacher development intervention to assist teachers in the Foundation Phase with Home Language and First Additional Language literacy teaching aligned with the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statements. It was rolled out from 2014 – 2017 in 21 schools in different contexts in the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape. Overall, the evaluation indicates that the Project has achieved some success – at HoD, teacher and learner level.
