On 11 August, Minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube met with the FLOAT collaboration — a bold partnership of donors and government aiming to ensure that all South African children are literate and numerate by age 10.  FLOAT is working in close partnership with national and provincial education departments, built on joint decision-making and co-funding to ensure sustainability and alignment with government priorities.  FLOAT will partner with expert NGOs, using proven, evidence-based methods to support the roll-out of interventions.

The energy is high as we gear up for provincial rollout in Eastern Cape, Free State, and Gauteng starting January 2026!

When we get literacy and numeracy right in the early grades, we unlock a lifetime of learning.

The co-funders are: Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation, FEM Education Foundation, Gates Foundation, Kagiso Trust, Optima, Prevail Fund, Standard Bank Tutuwa Foundation, Zenex Foundation.
